So um....We're well past Q1 2018 aren't we? ^^;
Game development is a tricky thing, and it can be difficult to pinpoint when it will be ready for release, especially for a game like Wild Souls. So rather than a concrete release date or even an ETA (like Q1, Q2, etc.), all of my mentions of possible release dates from this point onward are just guesses, since I can't be 100% sure it will be ready to go on whatever date I give it.
My original ETA was Q1 2018, however a lot was going on around that time (I had to finish up school and all that jazz, which wasn't until mid-May). So I ended up waiting until I got out of school so I could spend more time on development.
Once I started working on the game more, there was quite a bit I wanted to change (like new layers for wolves, different explore system, changes to breeding system, removing actions, etc.) and that, in turn, moves the goal post even further back.
Lastly will be the largest obstacle, and that's balancing the game. Wild Souls is different from other sim sites since the users are in groups a majority of the time. Characters are split into 2 major groups: user wolves and NPC wolves. In a game like Lioden, the pride is managed by 1 player (the king). In Wolfplay, the pack is also managed by 1 player, but the ranks kind of shift in the pack on their own.
In Wild Souls however, packs are shared and not owned by any 1 person (unless you reach alpha position and don't accept any users in). So if you're in a pack with other people, they can interact with all the same NPCs that you can, and in the same way. In addition to pack sharing, the NPCs act on their own, allowing them to change ranks, breed, migrate, or whatever else on their own.
All of that combined is not an easy thing to balance, so making sure that aspect runs as smoothly as it can is another factor.
So...yeah! Just some backstory and explanation as to why ETAs might change or delay.
